Reading

I treat reading as a way to better myself through the advice, experiences, and perspectives of people far smarter than I will ever be.

I grew up on 2x speed. Standard speed sounds like slow motion to me now. I don’t do it to rush; I do it to absorb more. It doesn't stop me from savoring a story, it just lets me get to the next one faster.

The phone I daily drive has a black and white e-ink screen like a Kindle just so I can read comfortably in line at the grocery store. My diet is about 90% Vegetables (dense non-fiction, hard sci-fi) and 10% Candy (Manga like Sakamoto Days). I am chronically offline so most of my media consumption is audiobooks (~80/yr) with a little bit of games and anime thrown in the mix.

I am always down for sitting in silence reading our own separate books. But the real goal? A two-person book club. I want to read the same thing you are reading so we can argue about the theories over dinner.

If you want a sense of my tastes, my top 5 books for 2025 were (in no particular order)

Why We Gather by Pria Parker
The Remembrance of Earth’s Past Trilogy by Liu Cixin
Salt, Fat, Acid, Heat by Samin Nosrat
Abundance by Ezra Klein
Man’s Search for Meaning by Viktor E. Frankl
